Elliot Biro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechantronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He has been researched welding, focusing on steel welding metallurgy, in industry and academia for 25 years. His research focuses on developing deep metallurgical understanding of welds to address practical industrial welding problems. His recent research investigated a variety of steel weldability topics like LME, spot weld fracture, and tailor welded blank formability, and HFIW process robustness. Dr. Biro has been awarded over $4.6M in research and infrastructure funding and currently has over 110 journal papers and 90 conference papers.
