Kazuhiro Saitou is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He received his BEng from the University of Tokyo and his MS and PhD from MIT. His research centers on computational design synthesis, developing algorithms and software tools for mechanical, industrial, and biomedical system design. He teaches courses including design for manufacturing, product design, design optimization, and the senior capstone project. Dr. Saitou has received the NSF CAREER Award, ASME Design Automation Award, and best paper awards at international conferences. From 2021 to 2025, he served as Associate Chair for Graduate Education in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Fellow of ASME and IEEE.
